Pet of the Month - May 2010 - Pickles Reynolds

In early spring Pickles was found wandering the streets of Swindon, she was a bag of bones with no fur.

Luckily for Pickles, Friends of the Animals, a South Wales based rescue charity took Pickles on.  She was in a sorry state and taken to a local vets for examination.  A large stick had penetrated from her mouth through her palate into her nose, so this was carefully removed.

Pickles was left with a large hole in her palate.  Every time she ate food or drank water some would come down her nose causing her a lot of distress.

Luckily Pickles was adopted by an extremely caring family from Chepstow who brought her to Summerview Vets where Sarah Wilkins, the vet, investigated her injuries and decided on the best way to repair the hole.  Pickles came in for this major operation and under general anaesthetic Sarah reconstructed her palate.

Since then Pickles has never looked back.  Her owners are delighted as she can at last eat and drink without distress.  Pickles is now a very happy boisterous dog who is at last putting on weight and growing in confidence.  She is enjoying life immensely much to the delight of the Summerview staff who have kept a careful watch on her recovery!
